THIS VETTE IS NOW AT A NEW HOME IN FRANCE
THE VETTE NET - Nationwide Corvette Brokerage Network and proud Lifetime Member of the National Corvette Museum is pleased to offer a very nice 1973 Corvette Convertible in great shape with lots of mechanical and cosmetic work and upgrades.
Back in 1973, due to intense pressure from insurance companies and the infamous fuel shortage, Chevrolet started to implement some drastic changes when it came to appearance and performance. First of all, it seemed that it was very expensive to replace a damaged Chrome bumper, so the first step was to replace the coveted front bumper with a "plastic" or polyurethane cover. This created a unique look for this model year with only one Chrome bumper on the rear. Performance also suffered since engines had to comply with more stringent emissions.
Nevertheless, the 1973 models have a particular spot in the Corvette lineup and are now being sought after as as the next best thing after the "Bumper Cars" of 1968-1972...
This particular model is now adorned with a fiery Red paint, even though it started its life as Elkhart Green. Actual paint is in very good condition, very shinny and intact showing a few signs of aging. It is definitely a looker and is conservatively described as "an eight footer". The interior came as a deluxe leather and presently is in very good condition, perhaps being original... but it almost looks too good, so it is likely it was updated some time ago. Carpet also seems newer and the dash cover and console look original and in good shape. All gauges work , except clock (of course!) and sound comes from an aftermarket radio neatly installed in the dash. Convertible top is brand new and recently installed to the tune of almost $1000...
The heart of the beast is in the engine... Present owner who had it for three years now, had the engine completely rebuilt to a whooping 300 HP and 380 lb-ft of torque. Initially it was equipped with the base L48. Engine is not original, but apparently a late 70s Camaro. It breathes in through a 650 CFM Holley carburetor coupled with an Edelbrock Performer intake. Radiator seems to be a newer style and keeps the engine cool as cucumber even in stop-and-go Florida traffic at 90 degrees. There is also a new water pump and new main seal. Has L82 Aluminum valve covers, MSD electronic ignition, all in all, a powerful and reliable setup. Transmission is a M20 - Muncie - wide ratio which performs as it should. Has a brand new Centerforce clutch, just installed. Has the standard 3.36 rear axle, a newer exhaust, three year old tires on original steel wheels with beauty rings and "dog dish" caps. And yes, new battery.
Undercarriage and frame are very clean with new steering gear, joints, new leaf springs, new shocks... 6000 miles on new brakes, rotors, calipers.
This is a great example of a nice C3 Convertible where most of the work and maintenance was already done and is ready for the road and show. Has also a great potential to retain its value and possibly appreciate in the future.
